Ronan Cusack reports on fishing from Loughs Mask and Carra.

Angling on Mask throughout the month of June has been practically non existent, mainly due to the tropical weather conditions we have enjoyed. The lakes water levels have dropped close to there lowest as water temperatures remain high. The majority of trout have now moved from the shallows in search of the cooler water across the deep.

Now that the last of the World Cup entry forms have been delivered anglers are finally beginning to sit up and re-focus there attention on catching a few trout.

David and Helen Hall of Halls Angling Centre (www.lakeshoreholidays.com) reported having a number of anglers staying during the fine weather of the last couple of weeks, but only reporting a few small fish.

This weekend saw a slight change in our weather, with a fair amount of rain and fresh westerly winds. Fish across the deep responded immediately to the welcome change as local anglers Kevin Egan and Ronan Cusack reported 5 good fish for a half day on Sunday (best fish 1.5lbs, all returned). The lads also met and returned a number of under-size fish during the afternoon. Noel Fay from Kildare also fished the deep on Sunday and he had 2 fish for his day (best fish 1.5lbs). Ballinrobe angler Richie Cameron had a lovely 4lbs fish on a dry sedge in the shallows over the weekend. Neil and Tommy Foley fished the deep for a few hours on Sunday and they had 2 fish (best fish 1.5lbs).

Lough Carra is also beginning to produce the goods, not only in the evening but also during the day if conditions allow. Well known Clare anglers Pappy Cotter and Brian McInerney had some great sport during the week on wets, reporting 8 good fish over 3 days (best fish 2.25lbs). There have also been reports of some good sedge fishing late into the evening.
