David Tantrum PRO of Waterford City and County Trout Angling Association puts pen to paper and thanks all those involved in last weekend’s Knockaderry competition.  He tells us:

On a wet and blustery Bank Holiday Monday Julie Gerry won the Knockaderry trophy and a voucher for 800 Euro of fishing tackle
Her stripping skills left the other competitors cold and it was rumoured that it was her Bobbies, Bobs and Fabs that seduced the winning bag of six rainbows.
Who knows? Perhaps it’s all in the pheromones! Julie again established herself as a worthy international angler.

A total of Ninety five fish were caught over the Weekend, the largest measuring 66 cm.

Credit is due to Michael Drinan who organised the event with the Waterford Club. Such was the efficiency that one hour after the competition, the finalists were in Donnacha’s Pub in Kilmeaden enjoying a hot meal and watching the long list of prize winners. Despite all the slagging, Michael had us finished by five thirty. Everybody agreed that the new harbour at Knockaderry justified the support that the club had received from Waterford Leader and Inland Fisheries Ireland.
Many thanks to all the club members who made the day so memorable.

FLY FISHING ON KNOCKADERRY CARRIGAVANTRY BALLYSCANLON

Carrigavantry – This 30 acre reservoir is hidden in the hills behind Tramore. The lake can be fished from the dam and road and the rest of the lake shore needs waders. The deepest part is the island at 10 feet.Prolific hatches of lake olives and damsels occur. Stocking is with both browns and rainbows. You could loose your catch here to a 20lb Pike!

Knockaderry – The deepest part of the lake is 24 feet at the dam tower, the average depth is 6ft and this results in good weed growth. Trout fatten fast in this fertile water on caddis, snails and stickle backs, while lake olives, buzzers sedges and damsels bring on prolific rises. This 80 acre reservoir is a traditional top of the water drift fishery.

New members are welcome and an active programme of fly tuition is pursued to encourage beginners and get our youth out into the countryside.
