Some weeks back in Caffreys Mick Flanagan was at the Lakeland Anglers end of season weigh-in, and I met up with Bernie Newman of Lynn Cross, who was really was itching to catch a big pike, and this was sorted last weekend…
On the day Bernie’s son Ciaran joined us for what turned out to be a beautiful calm day on Ree. The Lake had produced some cracking pike for French anglers staying in Killanure Cottages prior to our day, and I had a bit of an idea what was working. Not long into the morning session Bernie was in the thick of the action hooking up with some very lively pike, all in the mid double figures. Ciaran had a slow start but after lunch rattled into some huge pike not far off the 20lbs mark. It was a great day in great company, and in time to come I reckon Ciaran will be targeting these hard fighting fish on the fly rod.
