Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

/4/15 There were two anglers who had a smile on their faces today, that was German Angler Mr. Peter Wolf, who caught a 8 lbs. Salmon on the troll, while fishing with his Ghillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan of www.vincentsfishing.com and the celebrations’ didn’t stop there because there was a double celebration, Peter’s Ghillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan, reached the grand age of 70 years young and I can tell you without any fear of contradiction there is one almighty party at Dooleys Restaurant, Waterville this evening as I write this report. On a personal note I would like to wish Vincent a very Happy Birthday and just for the record 42 years ago last month, Vincent caught my first Big Sea Trout weighing in at 9 lbs. 3 ozs caught on the troll and I never said thank you for that, I hope this puts the record straight and thanks for that Vince. Wind W Moderate and overcast with misty rain.

/4/15 As we all know today is good Friday, but sadly my noble Anglers had a slack Friday In all departments in other words they failed miserably in their duties to procure the Wild Atlantic Salmon or a premiere Specimen Sea Trout. On that note we will head for the backdate department and the Doctors Surgery and for good reason on the 21/3/15 Doctor Derry Gibson of Waterville and of the Medical Centre Waterville caught a fine lightening fresh 9 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Staying in the backdate department, Mr. Jim Sayers of Waterville was fishing with his good friend on Lough Cloonaghlin last Saturday 28/3/15 and caught 15 Brown Trout up to 1 lbs. and also saw the first hatch of the duck fly this year, which is in full swing at present. On their way home from their days fishing, they saw hundreds  of Hares in fields and in Jim’s words, I have never seen so many in one field. All I can say is they must have been on the drink the day before and they were having a hare of the dog. Just for the record fair play to Jim he did report this on the day, but I failed miserably in my Duties, sorry for that. Wind NE with reasonable cloud cover.

/4/15 There was only one bit of action on this Easter Saturday that was in the C&R department, Mr. John Bojter of the UK, fishing with his Gillie Mr. Mike O’Dwyer, caught a fine Sea Trout in the 5 lbs. class. Wind light and variable with bright sunshine

/4/15 There was just one 2 lbs Sea Trout caught by Mr. Bernard Brezlin of Dublin, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com  To all you angling historians’  you well know that Ireland was celebrating the 99th Anniversary of the Easter Rising today, well this is a fact, I don’t know what James Connelly the Irish Rebel would have said if he was depending on you anglers and the rising of the Salmon, so the least said the soonest mended and let the celebrations begin. Wind S and strong with bright sunshine all day.

/4/15 The Waterville Fishery gave local Gillie Mr. John Murphy, a good taste of poetic justice today, as you all know John was our Fishery manager for a good few years and did a fantastic job all round and got the hatchery back into full swing, so it was great to see John on his first day out catching a fine 7 ½ lbs. Hatchery Salmon on the troll. Wind calm all morning and West in the afternoon and good enough to cast a fly, but sadly my Noble Salmon thought otherwise

/4/15 All the odds were against the anglers, with bright sunshine and little to no wind, but odds or no odds this didn’t stop renowned German Angler Mr. Peter Rall, from catching a lightening fresh Wild Atlantic 8 lbs. Salmon on the Troll, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Weather as already stated.
