The Drowes had lovely water levels all week. On Monday, the gauge read 0.75m and the river gradually fell to read 0.67m by Sunday. The weather was very unsettled once again and somewhat wintery at times.

This was another very good week on the Drowes with some 50 salmon caught. On Monday, Eoin McManus caught and released an 8½lb salmon caught on a Rapala from the Washstones. Ryan Burk recorded a 9½ lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ from the Wee Drain and Peter Schumont accounted for an 8 lb salmon caught on a fly from the Perch Hole. On Tuesday, Bryan Smyth recorded a 7 lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ from Melly’s High Bank and Julian Ciconte had a very good day with 3 salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’. The fish weighed 8, 8 & 9 lb with 2 of these being released again. On Wednesday, Paul McGowan logged a 7½ lb salmon caught prawn from The Washstones. On Thursday, Phillip McGraw reported a 7 lb salmon caught on prawn from the Trout Pool and Darryl Kennedy accounted for a 10½lb salmon caught on prawn from The Blackwater. John O’Neill reported a 10½ lb salmon caught on a fly from the Mill Pool and Harry Lloyd accounted for an 8lb 14oz salmon caught on a Rapala from the Old Sea Pool. Saturday was the top day once again due no doubt to the larger rod attendance. Adrian Hudson recorded a 10 lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Lennox’s. Dermot McNeice reported a 6½ lb grilse caught on prawn from the Washstones. Stephen Gibson logged a 5 lb grilse caught on a spinner from Lennox’s. Alan Blanquart registered a 9 lb salmon caught on a spinner from the Blackwater. Virgilio Alonso recorded an 11 lb 5 oz salmon caught on prawn from the Black Hole.  Joe Darragh reported a 9 lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Red Roof. John Ford logged a 5½ lb grilse caught on prawn from the Sea Pools and Billy Gilbert accounted for a 7 lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Fall Hole. On Sunday, Chris McDaid recorded a 5 lb grilse caught and released on a spinner from Corry. Roland Delforge logged a 6½ lb grilse caught on a spinner from the Perch Pool and Gary Morrow reported 2 fish weighing 5 and 8 lb caught on prawn from the Money Hole with one of these being released again.

The forecast is for more unsettled weather next week giving fair amounts of rainfall which will ensure good water levels in the Drowes. Prospects look very good for the coming week J
