Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 9th to Sunday 15th May 2016.
The Drowes ran at low levels all week. The gauge only read 0.46m on Monday and by the end of play on Sunday, this had dropped to 0.40m. Allied to the bright, hot (up to 26°C) and sunny days, salmon angling was challenging. Despite the poor conditions, there were a few salmon caught however. On Monday, Maurice McEvoy recorded a 5lb grilse caught on fly from Scot’s Corner. On Tuesday, Patrice Lebail reported a 6lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Boat House. On Thursday, Patrice recorded 2 grilse weighing 4 & 5lb caught on fly. There were 2 other salmon caught and we await full details of these.
There is rain forecast for the coming week and hopefully this will be sufficient to raise water levels. It will need to be decent rain since the ground is very dry at present.
