The overnight weather forecast was spot on and very strong winds gave way to brighter conditions by mid-morning. Day 2 of the Winter Shore Angling Festival was a complete turn around on conditions experienced by anglers on day 1 of the event. Sunshine replaced the overcast skies and a decrease in wind speed was welcomed by all. Temperatures were in and around 10 degrees and very mild and it looked like it was going to be a great fishing day!

The beaches at Clones (Kilgorman) and Courtown (Dodds Rocks), Co Wexford were the venues for day 2 of the festival and the water remained coloured. Fishing was from 12 till 5 and the tide was on the ebb during the whole of this 5 hour session. Most importantly the fishing did not disappoint.

From the “all in” fish were taken all along the beach at Kilgorman with some very nice flounder being taken.  Other species included, whiting, codling, dogfish, rockling with some anglers hitting trebles on every cast. The fishing was fairly consistent on all of the sections throughout the day. Saul Page had circa twenty fish in around two hours and was getting consistent trebles throughout the session.

Fishing was reported to be excellent at the Courtown venues as well but we had to wait to see how the fishing there compared to that at Kilgorman.

The best flatfish today was a nice 36cm flounder taken by Shay O’Neill and a 34cm flounder taken by Kevin Lewis. The best round fish was a 63cm bullhuss taken by Gary Wood and a 42cm cod taken by Sean Ivory.
