Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports (in a style James Joyce would be proud of) on the fishing around Donegal Bay …

Sea trut running the surf were gorging on sandeel
Sea trout running the surf were gorging on sandeel

27/02 Wild seas roaring today in Donegal big rolling barrels crashing in and we got a corner with a bit of shelter under a hill and cast out and the rods were jumping on the tripods straight away, it soon became apparent that a big shoal of seatrout were in the surf as John even took in a treble of trout in one cast and had 9 trout in 5 casts of trout jumping clear of the water and swimming fast through the big waves. They were regurgitating small sandeels while unhooking and we had to throw the trout back for release as the big surf was dangerous at times to get too close too, a raw day with plenty of fish on the wild Atlantic way perfect.

Off she goes...
Off she goes…

01/03 March 1st the meteorological 1st day of spring and it was a gentle day in Donegal with sunshine and showers usual mix with lots of rain coming down through the mountains making the water a murky brown, no day for lures, but some nice fish landed and released again after some difficulty getting the trout to stay still for a quick pic he shot off at speed again and flounder to 37cm made for a pleasant few hours on the shores
