Midlands angling correspondent Mick Flanagan from Midland Angling was in touch with a roundup of fishing from the midlands area.

LOUGH BANE. Lough Bane Anglers recently hosted an evening Peter fly-fishing competition, and it proved tough going as thirty-two anglers fished from 7pm – 11pm that evening. John Smith produced the winning trout weighing an impressive 3.14lbs, to take Top Rod. Prior to the competition Lough Bane Angling Association presented club member John Mulvaney with his International jacket, and it was a proud moment for the Kells, angler. John successfully qualified some time back to fish for Ireland, and will be on the Irish team come September for the Autumn International on Lynn Brenig in Wales. We wish John and the Irish team all the best come September.

LOUGH LENE .  Lough Lene Anglers had planned to host the Michael Healy Memorial Cup last Friday July 13th, but due to the recent warm spell decided to cancel the competition. Pat Browne competition captain was in contact with Angling Focus, and the competition is fixed for Friday Night July 27th. Its 7pm – 11-15pm, and CLF Transport of Ashbourne is the main sponsor of the competition. This is a fly only competition.
DODGE AND PIKE. Marc Dodge is from the Bahamas, but is over in Ireland these past few months and is here till next May. Marc loves his fishing be it coarse, game, or sea fishing, and has really taken a shine to fishing here in Westmeath. Based in Blackrock Co. Dublin, Marc can hop on a train and be in Mullingar early morning, and fish till late evening. Last Sunday we got a short break from the blistering sunshine, and had some cracking pike on flies, lures and dead baits. Marc is back in a few weeks, and an evening at the Peter fishing is pencilled in so he can try and catch his first trout on the fly here in Westmeath.

JIMMY NEA CUP. We have a clash of competitions this Friday night, as Ennel Anglers host the Jimmy Nea Cup. Its an 7pm start and will be fished till 11pm. Like many competitions this date was rescuaduled due to the warm weather, and hopefully a few fish will come on the feed. Its peak time for the Peter fishing but the warm water temperature’s, really seem to effect the fishing.
