Declan Gibbons reports that angling activity slowed due to the Mediterranean like conditions over the last week and the bulk of the trout angling that took place was on Caenis, producing good bags of fish and good quality trout also.

In the Oughterard area Basil Shiels of Ardnasillagh Lodge (tel. 091-552550) reports a slow down in general day time angling and to a lesser extent Caenis fishing due to cooler mornings with a slight northerly breeze but those who were on the water early for Caenis fishing were rewarded for their efforts. With the change in weather to fresher, showery weather, sedge fishing has picked up and anglers are reporting good sedge fishing in the Oughterard area over the last couple of days.

Anglers are advised that Storm Hector is forecast to bring high winds later today and tomorrow, and are probably best advised to stay off the water until the storm has passed. The weather is forecast to be changeable for the next few days which will give a welcome respite from bright sunshine, and daytime sedge fishing should produce good fishing.
