Michael Flanagan from Midlands Angling reports…

Derravaragh Anglers lashed out across the lake last Sunday in freezing conditions, but as the day progressed the sun broke through and was quite pleasant at times. Once you dressed for the weather, its not bad out in such chilly conditions.

On the day its was all hands on deck as the Christmas Hampers were up for grabs, plus The Weir Cup, and a prize for angler with most points over the winter pike competitions.

Once again it was tough going on Derravaragh and only a few small pike were caught on the day. Still a result was what counted, and local angler Christy Cox had the best pike, fishing along with Chairman Liam Gilsenan.

Joe Ledwith senior was once again in fine form and finished 2nd, with my angling pal on the day Pauric Martin of Mullingar 3rd. Joe Ledwith also picked up the prize for angler with most points over the winter pike competitions, and Frank Mckeon sponsored and presented Joe with his prize.

Joe Ledwith was top pike angler in 2019 on Derravaragh . presenting prize is Frank McKeon.

That’s the last Derravaragh Club competition of the 2019 season, and Chairman Liam Gilsenan thanked all those who fished and supported Derravaragh Anglers

GLORE ANGLERS – competition and join the club

Its was announced at the day of the competition, that Glore Anglers will hold a club pike competition this coming Sunday 8th December. I was on line to Glore Chairman Eddie O’Donnell and he told me the competition will start at 11am, and membership can be taken out on the day at 25 Euro plus 10 Euro entry fee. I have not being on Glore for some time, and I reckon the Glore River will be quite high so launching boats should not be a problem.
