August 23rd proved to be a day for the Porbeagles on board Kit Dunne’s charter boat Castle Maiden which relocated to Kilmore Quay for the sharking season. Thomas Markey had three of the feisty fighters, all released safely after a quick photo.

The following day was a switch up and blue sharks provided nearly all the action. Everyone on board landed a shark and there were plenty of double hook ups to add the the fun. There was one specimen blue landed and a solitary porbeagle.

The 25th proved to be a slow day. In the end there was one blue shark dropped, one lost at the boat and one landed.

The following day was a blank.  One big blue circled the boat ignoring baits for more than an hour. But it was a great day at sea with lots of nature to keep the spirits up.

What a turnaround the 27th was. Kits anglers had three blues, one making 180cms, and two porbeagles. Yesterday everyone’s best efforts came to nothing while today they were full on, hungry. Kit tells us he was fairly bemused by the experience but was happy all the same – that’s fishing.
