In the Cornamona area Tom Doc Sullivan http://www.tomdoc.com reports of good angling in the area, Steve Carew and Ray Hickey of Fulling Mill flies fished for two days using wet may flies and landed 16 keep able fish best fish being 3lbs. Martin Mannion from Donegal fished one day and caught 6 on dries and buzzers with a couple of fish in the 2.5lbs bracket. Neil Carmichael had a cracking 4lbs on a wet mayfly on his first day out for his may trip. Visiting Anglers from Belgium staying at Dooroy Lodge http://www.selfcateringcon.com on Monday last took a break out from their pike angling trip and went Dapping for their first time in the area and landed 10 fish for their days trout fishing.
In the Oughterard area Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge 091-552550 reports of good fishing mainly on the mid to lower lake areas, Larry Kelly Dublin and John Jacks Scotland for 14 days had 42 fish on Mayfly & Buzzer with a few fish over 5lbs caught. Colin Wright from Belfast had 11 fish for 4 days with the best fish being 5lbs 9oz. Brothers Joe & Tommy Johnson had 6 fish for their days angling all on buzzer and best fish being 4lbs. John Evans for 2 days had 12 fish on dry mayfly with 2 fish being 4lbs 4oz. Northern Ireland angler Willie Muir & matt Carson 15 fish for 3 days fishing with one super fish over 6lbs. Joe Barry from Cork had 8 fish for 2 days all on buzzer 2 of which were over 4lbs.
Kevin Molloy of Baurisheen Bay Boat Hire, Guiding & Self Catering 087-9604170 reports of Harry Couch and Family dapping in the area for 8 days averaging 6 fish per day with an average weight of a pound and a half, Dave Gordon & Gordon Harrop had 24 fish for their weeks fishing with 1 fish over 4 lbs, 3 over 3lbs, 1 fish 2lbs and the remaining fish averaging a pound and a half. Richard & Hugo McGuire had 7 fish on wets and dries for their day on Corrib with fish varying in size from a pound up to three pounds.
Cong Angling Club hosted their Annual Mayfly Competition on Sunday last with 33 anglers participating and returning 25 trout Winner on the day was John Lydon with 4 fish for 7lbs 13oz, Second place went to Ted Wherry with 3 fish for 4lbs 15oz and in Third place was John Joe Mullen with a fish 3lbs 8oz and John Joe was also winner of the Heaviest Fish Category, Cong Angling Club will host their final competition of the year on 29th of September on a Catch & release basis for further information contact club secretary Dan Donovan on 086-1238174.
