Public Consultation on Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC) – Article 17
The Department of Housing Planning and Local Government has published the draft update of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive Article 8 Assessment, Article 9 Determination of Good Environmental Status and Article 10 Environmental Targets for public consultation.
What they are looking for?
Your views are being sought on the following elements set out in this document namely: the assessment of the marine environment, the characteristics for good environmental status, the proposed environmental targets and associated threshold values.
This feedback will be used to inform the preparation of the final assessment report including setting environmental targets and associated threshold values.

What is the Marine Strategy Framework?
The Marine Strategy Framework Directive is implemented in 6-year cycles commencing in 2012. The Initial Assessment addressing Articles 8, 9 and 10 of the directive was published and reported to the European Commission in 2013. This was followed by the development of a monitoring programme in 2015 and a programme of measures in 2016.
The Department are now in the second implementation cycle and are in the process of revising the Initial Assessment under Articles 8, 9 and 10 of the Directive. They are seeking your views in relation to the draft update.
