River Moy Angling Report week ending 20/06/21

Yet another cool week in the west, with temperatures only rising to 14° Celsius and at times feeling like 12° Celsius.  The northerly and easterly winds prevailed for the week and water levels dropped marginally over the week. However, a very good week for the Moy with 316 Salmon reported from its various fisheries.

The Moy Fishery recorded 75 fish for the week, mostly grilse caught on the Ridge Pool.

Ballina Salmon Anglers reported 30 grilse for the week, 10 of which were caught on Sunday alone, mostly caught on the worm.

Mount Falcon Fishery reported 3 salmon for the week, all caught on the fly, best weighing 8 lbs.

Coolcronan Fishery had 2 salmon for the week, both grilse, one on the prawn and one on the worm.

Roy Buckley reports 2 grilse from Byrne’s Fishery for the week.

Armstrong’s Fishery had 9 salmon for the week, and George Armstrong informs that anglers can purchase an all-day permit for €20 at Tiernan Brothers, Foxford or contact George himself on +353 (0)87 2801640.

Gannon’s Fishery had 5 salmon for the week, the best weighing 12.2 lbs., caught by Davy Mc Kee on the prawn.

Granville Nesbitt reports that the Foxford Fishery had a very busy week with 52 salmon reported caught, the best for 13 lbs. caught on the prawn.

Increased numbers of anglers visiting Foxford Salmon Anglers’ waters meant a good rise in catches with 56 salmon reported caught for the week. A decent percentage of these were released. Foxford Salmon Anglers reported plenty of fresh grilse running the system and the most popular method was bubble and fly.

Cloongee Fishery had 39 salmon for the week. Stephen Lyons from Galway had a good fish on the fly for 8 lbs. Thierry Coulm and guests had 35 salmon for the week on different beats averaging 4 lbs. and released 30 out of the 35 fish. Thierry himself had 17 of these with 15 released and commented that “the Moy is magic!”

Paul Mc Grath, Meelick, releasing a 9 lbs. salmon in East Mayo Anglers waters

East Mayo Anglers had 30 fish for the week of which 22 were released. The heaviest fish was caught by Paul Mc Grath, Meelick, for 9 lbs. on the fly, who had a few for the week.
