Edmund Corry and Mike O’Shea fished Lough Mask yesterday (29 September) and managed to end the season with a fish of a lifetime. The fact it was caught on a fly made it all the more special to Edmund.
Fishing a size 10 Mayfly on a clear intermediate leader over deep water between Gortmore and The Shintellas he hooked a fish that was clearly something bigger than normal. After a 25 minute fight that tested his 6 weight rod and 10lbs leader to the limit the fish was ably netted by Mike. They estimated the huge trout to weigh maybe as much as 17 or 19lbs. Edmund told us it was a thrill to be so close to a trout so big, that it was just a glorious experience.

On seeing the size of the trout thanks were given to the tier of the fly, Edmund’s friend Mike Kileen.

There were a few photos taken and the then the trout was revived and it swam away strongly.
