Mark Driver of Rathdrum Trout Anglers reports on the TAFI Leinster River Championships which was fished on the Avonmore River in Rathdrum Co. Wicklow at the weekend….

Well what a fantastic day!! There were 21 anglers fishing it out for Leinster Champion position for 2023 on the Avonmore.

All 21 competing anglers had fish and between them they caught and released 229 trout.



  • 1st Kevin Oates 4 place points – 37 fish – 18500
  • 2nd Éamonn Conway 14 fish – 7220 points – 5 place points
  • 3rd Shane Callán 25 fish – 12920 points – 6 place points.

Masters results

  • 1st Brian Larkin 13 – placing points 4600 – points 9 fish
  • 2nd Stuart McGrane 5 fish – 2500 points – 15 placing points.
  • 3rd Marc Tuckett 4 fish – 2080 points – 16 placing points

Longest fish

Gerard MC Loughlin & Kevin Oates at fish each for 28cm. But prize went to Kevin Oates for most fish between both anglers.
