Pete Davis of West Cork and District SAC on the club’s 2nd match of the year, where the fished the Wall at Monkstown…

The Monkstown Wall was the venue for our second club match of the year on Sunday evening. Although it’s not the great venue it once was, it still throws up decent numbers of good size Whiting.

5pm – 9pm was the match time and fish made an appearance from the first cast. The first hour was frantic. Sean Healy and Troy Francis were the early leader’s both had 15+ fish on their match cards.

whiting

Low tide came into play in the second hour and the fishing slowed up but as soon as it turned the fish came back on. Better quality 30cm+ Whiting now started coming over the wall. Jason Convery had a fine 38cm Whiting which would eventually go on and win the round fish pool, pipping Tom Collins’ 37cm pipe fish. David Kennedy was very unlucky not to win the pools unfortunately for him he lost a big conger at the edge of the wall.

Triple shot, double whiting and a flounder

The third and fourth hour of the match was like the first. JP Molloy after a slow first 3 hour piled the pressure on the leaders and had an impressive 19 fish in the last hour to take second place. Troy Francis was the winner with 43 fish.
