Here at Blackwater Valley Fishery, we provide visitors with a peaceful location in one of the most scenic areas along the Blackwater River. Our fishery covers extensive areas throughout Counties Cork and Waterford. We offer a complete service to all those who enjoy fishing, catering for all your needs and ensuring you can enjoy our amenities safely. Should you require it, we have a fully qualified guide and casting instructor, Damien O’Brien, available to accompany you while on our fishery.
We operate primarily on beats covering both the mid and lower reaches of the River Blackwater. In addition to our own beats, which are privately owned, we also partner with a number of nearby fisheries along the River Blackwater allowing us to offer our clients better access and variety to the river according to their fishing preferences. Additionally, the fishery is part of an officially designated Special Area of Conservation. As such, we carefully control and monitor the number of rods on each beat and ensure that fish stocks are preserved at all times helping us both to maximise the enjoyment of our anglers and make sure the business remains eco-friendly.
Ballyduff Bridge Beat 1
Located on the south bank of the River Blackwater entirely above Ballyduff Bridge alongside Ballyduff Village, Co. Waterford, an area well renowned for its scenery.
A very easy wading beat that can be fished from top to bottom without interruption. This beat consists of slow- and fast-moving water making it ideally suitable for fly fishing by both experienced and inexperienced anglers alike.
Ballyduff Bridge Beat 2
Also located on the south bank of the river in the same area as Beat 1 this beat stretches from the end of Beat 1 and covers an area above and below Ballyduff Bridge.
This beat consists of slower deeper water than Beat 1 and holds a good head of fish throughout the season. While it is mostly suitable for bank fishing, the head and tail of this beat is fly fishable while wading in low water. Here anglers can also enjoy sea trout and brown trout fishing.
Ballyduff Bridge Beat 3
Located on the north bank of the river, adjacent to Ballyduff Village, Co. Waterford.
This is a short but very productive beat. Suitable for fishing with both fly and spinning with a deep pool that holds a great head of fish all season long.
Crowley’s Lower Beat
Located on the north bank of the River Blackwater between Fermoy, Co. Cork and Ballyduff, Co. Waterford.
This is a short but very productive beat, especially in high water. It is suitable both for spinning in low water and fly fishing in the bottom of the pool.
Blackstone Beat
Also located on the north bank of the river, this time between Ballyhooly and Killavullen, Co. Cork, this is a mid-river beat.
Blackstone is a long, slower moving beat that holds a good head of fish and fishes very well in mid to high water. There are a number of very good taking spots on this beat. Even though this is slower than your average stretch, the fly can work very well here. It is also a very good beat for spinning.
Ballygarret Beat
A mid-river Beat, located on the south bank of the River Blackwater between Killavullen and Mallow, Co. Cork.
Ballygarret, consists of two pools with a lovely fly run within the fishery running into a nice deep pool that holds a good head of fish and fishes very well in mid to high water. There is also a good fly run at the top of the beat. There are a number of very good taking spots on this beat. Suitable for both spinning and fly fishing.
Crowley’s Upper Beat (limited rods available)
Another mid-river beat, located on the North bank of the River Blackwater between Killavullen and Mallow, Co. Cork.
Crowley’s Upper Beat, consists of three very nice pools with three lovely fly runs within this stretch of water, running into a pool that holds a good head of fish and fishes very well in mid to high water. There are a number of very good taking spots on this beat. Again, this beat is suitable for both spinning and fly fishing.
