Good general coarse fishing with some specimen fish particularly tench and bream in Ballycullinan and nearby lakes on the River Fergus system. Very good general coarse fishing and fine competition stretches with several successful festivals held annually. Anglers using boats on the upper half of the lake and who have put in a bit of reconnaissance and prebaiting can locate large shoals of bream in sheltered bays. Fishing is free on the River Shannon but a permit is required for the River Suck. This can be bought online. The hot water section below the town produces some wonderful big tench along with good catches of bream. Good general coarse fishing with catches of bream now at Ballyforan, Ballygar and at Athleague. Excellent developed angling stretch at Donamon for disabled anglers. There is tench and hybrid fishing on Hollygrove lake from the stand and from the island. Good general coarse fishing in the famous “Meadows” stretch of the river. Advice should be sought from B & B or tackle shops for best locations on Lough Ree. Good general coarse fishing with some specimen fish. Very good tench, rudd, and some fine carp in many stretches of the Canal around the town. Good information on productive swims can be obtained from the tackle shop in the town.
