Belturbet Angling and Conservation Club are set for a resurgence of it’s renowned fishing opportunities with a competition on 3rd and 4th March to commemorate the late Phil Fitzpatrick, one of an army of local Belturbet people involved in building the tourism and fishing industries in the area over the past 50 years. Belturbet and the surrounding area has a long tradition of fishing, both for leisure and competitively, from the shore and by boat, in it’s many lakes and rivers. Pike and coarse fishing are in abundance and recent reports of fishing conditions are very positive in the region.
The competition, organised by a group of keen local anglers of national and international renown (some of whom have settled here from abroad, because of the wonderful availability of fishing prospects), working alongside local businesses to form a voluntary angling group, take place on local lakes and rivers. There are already considerable interest in the event.
The angling Club have put a huge amount of effort into this event, preparing posters, sponsorship, advertising and getting competitors to come to the event – with the aim towards many more in the future.
The emergence of this fishing event ties up with other local revival and interest in the Belturbet community. The weekend promises to be bountiful for fishing enthusiasts and a sight for all to see.
