Report For August for the River Mulkear/Mulcair by Richard Keays

Salmon

August was a very mixed month for fishing with unusually high numbers of salmon caught. High levels of water dominated  the first half of August causing the river to be unfishable for 3 or 4 days.

This attracted a fresh run of salmon into the river. Most anglers had success catching salmon.

The second half of August still had high water but remained fishable. Alternative fishing locations on the river such as Bilboa River and the upper stretches of Newport were used when the main Mulkear was coloured.

French guests at Millbank Angling were successful with practically all guests catching salmon during there weeks visit.

Xavier Personnic from France had 2 salmon on the flying C and lost 2 more on the fly. Patrice Le Luduec had a salmon of 6lb and Christopher landed 2 salmon and missed many more.

Many Italian guest were successful at Millbank with Cristiano Ricci catching 6 salmon with all safely returned to the river.

Antonio Pozzi had 4 salmon and 3 safely returned to the river all taken on the shrimp fly.
