Bernard Devenney of the Dundalk Salmon Anglers reports that water conditions for Salmon fishing on the Fane have been very good during the last week. The river level has been very stable and a lot of the Salmon have been travelling on up to the top part of the system resulting in Salmon being caught as far up as Magoney, well above the village of Inniskeen.
On Dundalk Salmon anglers waters Anthony Carty of Dundalk had a fine Salmon of 16lbs and a fish of 8lbs which he returned and Brendan Rice of Dundalk had a beautiful fish of 14lbs. Other known catches were Brian McShane of Dundalk who had three Salmon for the week, 10lbs, 6lbs. & 5lbs, all returned. Larry Durrigan of Ardee had a lovely fish 9lbs which was returned, Laurence Freeburn had a fine fish of 9lbs and Raymond Connolly had another lovely fish of 7lbs.
With another week to go until the season closes it is expected that water conditions should remain much as before and with Salmon continuing to enter the system fishing should remain good until the season finishes on the 12th. of October.
Paddy Tennyson of the Dundalk & District Brown Trout & Salmon Anglers Association reports that the club held their annual salmon competition on the River Fane with Justin Bird taking 1st place with a fine 12lb fish, 2nd was Peter Begley and 3rd was Mal McEneaney. The river was in excellent fishing condition with four fish caught on the day.
