Angling Coach and Guide Brendan O’Reilly reports that the first leg of the Newgrange Active Angling Winter League was in the eye of the storm. High winds and some driving rain did not put the pike off but it was still hard going for the young men of Newgrange Active Angling. Despite the appalling weather conditions, 22 fish to 7lb-13ozs with a total weight of 58lbs 8ozs were caught and released.

Darragh O’Neill from Drogheda came out on top for the day with 4 fish, one of 7-13, the heaviest fish on the day. Glen Finnegan of Duleek was 2nd with 4 fish and Jason Campbell of Duleek in 3rd with 3 fish and a personal best of 7-04 a happy lad. Coach Brendan O’Reilly was kept very busy with the scales and camera wading around the high water in a lake in Monaghan. Next leg is on the 17th November and here’s hoping that water levels will have dropped a little by then.
