Another local club making waves in the Angling World is Midland Pike Anglers. These Jolly Anglers love their day out, and last Sunday hosted an open boat pike competition on Lough Boderg. Its a fantastic venue for competitions, and there is brilliant launching area with plenty of parking, and toiled facilities at Dromod Harbour where we launched.

Midland Pike Anglers were certainly blessed weather wise, as Saturday was a howler with gales force winds and savage heavy rain.  On Sunday we were greeted with ideal fishing weather, and the Boderg pike took the bait on the day.  Ballymahon piker Mick Dalton was just piped for 1st place as Joe McDermott and nephew Jason rattled the scales with a pike of 17lbs 3oz.  Mick had a super pike of 15lbs early in the Morning to take 2nd place and Marty Cusworth finished 3rd with 13lbs 6oz.

I teamed up with brother J.J. and we had a super Morning session boating 4 pike best over 9lbs, but could not interest a Boderg pike after lunch. Mullingar Piker Barry Darby hit he scales with a 12lbs 10oz pike for 4th place, and Johnny Corcoran and daughter Alanis were also in the thick of the action. Midland Pike Anglers hope to run another competition before Christmas so watch this space for details.
