Shane Gallagher reports from the River Drowes:
06/05/2013: The end of April and beginning of May has been pretty unspectacular on the fishing front. No fish were reported between the 29th of April and the 4th of May. Since my last report, catches reported include, C. O’ Doherty’s 9lbs fish from the Red Roof on fly and A. Connelly’s 8lbs fish on prawn from the Money Hole, both on the 25th, J. Bowman had a 7lbs fish from the Grazings on the 26th, M. King had 2 fish on prawn from the Wash Stones, releasing one estimated at 9lbs, M. Bohon had a 5lbs fish on spinner from the Meadow and D. Mc Croskey had a 5lbs fish from the Sea Pool, all on the 27th, PJ Bailey had a 10lbs fish on worm from the Black Hole on the 28th. Fishing then improved on Sunday, with 4 fish reported. C. Marco had a 10lbs fish on fly from the Black Hole, D. Ferguson had a 5lbs fish on Mepps from the Footbridge, J. Peterson had an 8lbs fish on spinner from the Meadow and G. Matier had a 15lbs fish from the Wash Stones. Today, Monday M. McEvoy had an 11lbs fish on prawn from The Mill Pool, J. Brearty had a 5lbs fish on worm from the Mill Pool and R. Morrin had a 9lbs fish on fly from Mowatts.
The water level has dropped a little to 0.55 metres and the water temperature is very close to 10 degrees Celsius. The forecast for the week is for rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday but for continuing milder conditions towards the weekend.
