Seán Carty from Carty’s Land and Sea Sports in Bundoran reports on the sea angling around Donegal:

On the sea this week the big story is what a lot of folk have been waiting to hear , that is the mackeral have returned . Reports this week from the Prospector 1 at Mullaghmore and the Bundoran star are of plenty of mackeral , and good ones at that . Some of the shoals are surprizingly close to the shore for the time of year and we will be hoping that larger predators such as tope will be close behind . Both charter boats are also reporting good pollock  and bollan wrasse and an odd cod as well and the prospector also had plenty of herring onboard on Saturday  .

On the shore front it has been another good week . We had great reports from anglers on Mermaids cove and Tullan strand of great flounder , turbot and trout fishing this week with again some notable catches of trout over 2.5lb and flounder over 40cm . Killybegs Mariners club had a comp on Inver this week and there was some good fishing had with plenty of flounder and some anglers taking in two or even three at a time . Species caught on the night were flounder , seatrout and an unusual 15 spined stickleback . The winner on the night was Gavin Dorrian and the longest Flattie going joint to Gavin Dorrian and Liam Kearney . On Saturday Zoltan Kizsely had a 4 hour session at a mark on the northern side of Donegal bay and enjoyed some great fishing with plenty of Dabs and flounder . The Killybegs Mariners club will be hosting their open comp on the 19th of may at Narin strand at Portnoo from 10.30 till 3pm . Entry on the day will be E15 for adults and E5 for juniors and all money will be handed out on the day in prizes .
