Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

/6/14 There was some great action in the fly department, Mr. Peter Liddel and Mr. Alex Muir and their ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com take all the honours in the salmon fly department, they caught four salmon, their weights are as follows, 4 lb., 5 lbs., 7 lb., 10 lb. and capped that with a Sea Trout of 2 lb. Now we cut across to the south side and the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Mr. William Hamilton caught 3 sea trout all in the 2 lbs. class. Wind S light to fresh with good cloud cover.

/6/14 Lough Currane was the quiet side after yesterday’s action in the fly department, and for good reason, there was no wind until the afternoon, eventually the wind came from the west fresh, and the only angler to report a bit of action was Mr. Liam Ellis of Waterville, who caught a fine 2 lb. sea trout on the drift.

/6/14 The sea trout results are as fallows In the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com  Mr. William Hamilton caught one sea trout on the fly in the 3 lb. class and staying in the sea trout department, Mr. Liam Ellis of Waterville also caught a fine sea trout in the 3 lb. class.  Where salmon anglers are concerned, no comment. Wind SW light with reasonable cloud cover.

Mr Jo Jo Daly with his fine specimen salmon of 22 lb.

/6/14 Lough Currane went up and down with an almighty explosion in the trolling department today, and for good reason, Mr. Jo Jo Daly of Abbeydorney, Tralee, caught a cracker of a Salmon in the 22 lb. class. His ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com  was telling me that he took like a Grilse, but once my Noble Gentlemen, saw the boat there was one hell of an explosion and the battle was on, at one point they had to chase the fish because of the fear of running out of line, all I can say is, it wasn’t long before my Noble Salmon was running out of strength and that includes my Noble Captor.  Now to Frank’s Hired out Boat department.  Fran, caught 2 sea trout on the drift, ranging from 1 ½ lb. up to 2 lb. and yesterday 11/6/14 he caught and released a sea trout in the 5 lb. class. Staying with Franks hired out boat Department, Mr. Phil McCarthy and Joe Cahill caught two sea trout ranging from 1 ½ lbs up to 2 ½ lb. all caught on the fly. Now we cut across the lake to calmer waters, on the North side, Mr. Tony Church, caught a fine 3 lb. sea trout, on the drift. Now head up the shoreline to Waterville Boats and at [email protected]  German angler, Mr. Paul Dieter caught a fine 10 ½ lb. salmon on the drift, late this evening. Wind SW light to fresh and sunny all day. Now for quote of the day from Mr. Jo Jo Daly, I can tell you one thing I was told that Frankie is the best ghillie on the Waterville system and now I can see why.

/6/14  Straight to an apology and backdate department, and all fishing in the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com to Mr. William Hamilton for not reporting his fine C&R 8 lb. salmon yesterday, and to, Mr. Steve Cloake for not reporting his fine 5 ½ lb. sea trout, again sportingly put back. Just for the record if I miss your catches don’t hesitate to text on 353 (0) 872074882 Now today’s action, Mr. JoJo Daly was in good form again in the Salmon department, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.Lakelandshouse.com caught a fine 4 ½ lb. grilse on the fly. Well JoJo at least your catching Salmon on a Daly bases, fair play to you. In Franks hired out boat department Mr. Steve Cloake caught and released a fine sea trout in the 3 lbs Class. Now we cut across to the North Side, Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com  reported to me that in his hired out boat department, Mr. Kevin Edwards, in the past two days has caught 6 Sea Trout on the drift, ranging in the 2 ½ lbs class. In the backdate department Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at [email protected]   reports that last week Mr. Andy Wishart and Mr. Gavin Wishart caught 4 sea trout ranging from 2 ½ up to 3 ½ lb. Today’s weather overcast with a light NW wind.

/6/14 Mr. Keith Nickland fishing out of the Butler Arms Hotel and at www.butlerarms.com with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and at www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 4 ½ lb. grilse on the troll, also in good form fishing out of the Bungalow, was Mr. Sean Brick of Tralee, who caught a fine 4 lb. sea trout on the drift. Staying at the Bungalow, Mr. Angus Sutherland, caught a fine 2 ½ lb. sea trout on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com  There were a few boats out there manipulating their flies and I am sure they all didn’t draw a blank and if they did, they failed miserably in their duties in procuring the odd Salmon or sea trout and if you did you certainly failed in the reporting department. Wind WNW light to fresh with bright sunshine all day.

/6/14 Lough Currane was on the Blazing Saddles side, but at least one angler came up trumps in the C&R sea Trout department and that was Mr. Enrico Fantasia of Dublin, who caught a fine 2 lbs Sea Trout on the drift, while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Ton O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com Wind was all over the place and light.

/6/14 Again my Noble Anglers had blazing sunshine and flat calm conditions this morning but this didn’t deter a few boats from venturing out and one or two Anglers are glad they did. Come lunch time there was a light SW wind, that is when there was a bit of action, first in the striking zone was Irish American, Mr. Peter McGrath of Milwaukee USA while fishing with his ghillie Mr. Michael O’Sullivan of Waterville Boats and at [email protected] caught a fine 8 lb. salmon on the troll and finished their day off with a nice Sea Trout of 2 ½ lb. caught on the fly. Just for the record this was Peter’s first time fishing on Lough Currane, may it be the first of many visits. Now we cut across the lake to the south side and the hired out boat department of www.Lakelandshouse.com Mr. Michael Heery, while fly fishing, caught 6 sea trout up to 3 ¾ lb.
