Colum Walsh in our Limerick office reports that Jack Killeen, Limerick, caught this fine 4 lb Salmon on the Mulkear River last week at the Long field stretch. Jack hooked his fish not long after starting his day fishing on Monday 1st September, on a silver and red Flying C.
Jack has been angling for salmon on the Mulkear since 1949 and can remember back to days of using large and heavy greenheart rods, some which were home made.

On the day in question Tommy Hickey aided Jack in the landing of the fish.
Conditions on the Mulkear at present continue to run into low water levels as a dry spell is forecast for the coming week.
Go fishing…
The fishery is primarily a grilse or summer salmon river but does enjoy a small run of spring salmon. The Mulkear is an unlimited access fishery controlled by the ESB (Electricity Supply Board) whom you pay a permit charge to fish. Noted hotspots are the Long Field, Boher, Brittas and Drumkeen.
