A number of reports were received recently of salmon being caught on the Boyne which is great to hear. The latest of the 7 fish caught and released recently weighed circa 15lb and was caught in the Navan area over the weekend. The fish caught during the last week weighed between 9lbs and 17lbs with a number of good doubles included in the catch. All of the fish reported were caught on the Boyne in the Navan area or the lower Kells Blackwater. However, a few bigger fish have also been caught since the start of the season including several fish that were reported to be over twenty pounds in weight. The best fish was reported at just over 23lbs.

The majority of fish have been taken on the fly and with the recent dry weather water levels have dropped and cleared. Dropping water will suit angling in the Navan area as long as the water remains high enough to bring the fish that far. Fish will start to hold back as the water drops waiting for more water before travelling upstream.
