Lindsey Clarke reports from the RIVER DROWES – Monday 18th  April to Sunday 24th May 2015.

Once again water levels were very good all week on the Drowes. The gauge read 0.65m on Monday and despite a small rise on Wednesday (0.66m) the river fell gradually and read 0.61m by the end of play on Sunday. This was another very good week on the Drowes with some 35 salmon caught. Given here are some of the catches taken from the Catch Register at Lareen. On Monday, Ian Towner recorded a 5lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Meadow. John Ford reported an 8lb salmon caught on shrimp from the Sea Pools and Stephen Smith accounted for a 4lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Grazings. On Tuesday, Michael Kruse reported a 4lb grilse caught on prawn from the Island Pool. Stephen Smith registered a 7lb salmon caught on a fly from the Perch Pool. Phillip McGraw logged a 7lb salmon caught on prawn from the Money Hole. Dave Olphert reported a 9lb salmon caught on a fly from beat Red Roof and Brian McClintock accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from the Upper Mill. On Wednesday, Chris McDaid recorded a 5lb grilse on a spinner from Red Roof.

On Thursday, Eoin McManus reported an 8lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Spa Well. On Friday, Marty King recorded an 8lb salmon caught on prawn from Money Hole. Sean McNeice registered a 4 ½lb grilse caught on a fly from the Island Pool and John Ford accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on prawn from The Meadow. On Saturday, Tom McDonnell recorded an 8lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the The Washstones and William Rainey logged a 3lb grilse caught and released on worm from the Eel Weir. On Sunday, Rory Morrin reported a 7lb salmon caught on prawn from the Mill Pool. Michael Kruse registered an 8lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Tinker’s. Stuart Morgan logged a 3 ½lb grilse caught on prawn from The Meadow and John Ford accounted for a 7lb salmon caught on prawn from the Sea Pools. The forecast for the coming week is for unsettled and showery weather and this will ensure water levels remain good for the coming week. Prospects look very good once again
