Water levels were good on the Drowes last week again. The gauge read 0.59m on Monday and the river slowly dropped and was reading 0.56 by Wednesday. Wetter conditions in the second half of the week meant that the river began to steadily rise again and by the end of Sunday the gauge read 0.62m. The river fished well again with some 20 salmon recorded for the week.

On Tuesday, John Ford recorded a 9½lb salmon caught on prawn from the Sea Pools.

On Wednesday, Urs Frei reported 2 grilse weighing 3 & 4½lb caught on worm & fly from the Cascades and Eel Weir.

On Thursday, Eoin McManus logged an 8lb salmon caught and released again. Noel Gilford recorded a 10½lb salmon caught on shrimp from the Sea Pool and Michael Kruse accounted for a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from the Mill Pool.

On Friday, Urs Frei reported a 3lb grilse caught on a fly from the Black Hole.

On Saturday, Mark McDonagh recorded 2 salmon weighing 4 & 8lb caught on a fly from the Red Roof/Black Hole section of the river.

On Sunday, Chris Sinclair reported a 4½lb grilse caught on prawn from the Mill Pool.

With the wet weather forecast, water levels will remain good and with the increasing grilse run, prospects for next week are looking very good .
