John Twomey IFI reports from Shreelane lake in Skibbereen, Co. Cork:

Shreelane lake. This is a fly and Lure only winter pike fishery strictly no bait fishing allowed. Also fishing is by boat only with two Anglers Fancy boats and engines available for booking from Mrs Eileen Connolly  on 028 33328. Because this is a stocked Rainbow fishery during the summer the pike in this lake are of exceptional size with a best recorded fish of 33lb caught by Jason Brosnan from Limerick six years ago.

The angler in the picture is Tjark Wagner from Germany. Tjark was fly fishing with his Grandad Eckhart Wagner, a long time member of the River Ilen anglers club. Eckhart gives a couple of days every spring fly fishing for pike on Shreelane and rarely fails to catch a 20lb+ fish. Tjark had two fish on the day one 10lb and the other approx  20lb (42 inches).

This great pike wins Tjark Catch of the Week.

Shreelane pike fishery is open from 1st October to march 31st
