Sunday saw the inaugural “King of the Corrib” catch-and-release pike angling event on Lough Corrib, organised by Predator Hunters Ireland and North Mayo Pike Angling Club. The event was a resounding success, with a number of competitors travelling from all over the country to take part. A total of 14 boats took part, with 19 pike landed – all measured and released.
While fishing was tough on the day, at least it stayed dry, and everyone was welcomed in the Headford Arms for hot food and refreshments afterwards for the prize giving ceremony.
Kris and Lukas were the top boat on the day with a total of 354cm, just pipping Elvis & Aidan Traynor who had 348cm. In third place was the team of Colin & Callum Rickard with 254cm.
The longest fish on the day was caught by Niall Finnegan, a lovely fish of 103cm.
Well done to the organisers and all who took part on the day, many of whom will be looking forward to this event next year.
