Michael Flanagan reports on the pike fishing across the Midlands…

Recently I got chatting to Ger Matthews who moved from Dublin some years back, and is living in Lakepoint now in Mullingar. Ger is a fanatic angler, and enjoys quite a bit of sea fishing, but this time of year concentrates on the pike here across the Midlands. On his most recent angling adventure he took on board his 4-year-old nephew Joey Matthews, and the Joey Boy took to the fishing like a duck to water. It was bitter cold day bank fishing on the River Shannon but Joey did not bat an eye lid, and enjoyed the whole days fishing. It’s a priceless picture of Joey and his prized catch, and I am sure in the coming years this young Mullingar angler will feature in our Angling reports.

Marty was back in Ireland for a visit and to do some fishing too. Luck would have it myself and Marty had a few nice pike before he returned to Macklesfield, and these were beautiful looking pike. The fish took a shine to trolled lures, and deadbaits drifted under floats.
