How’s the Fishing?

So the river season ended with floods and unfishable conditions on the Nore and most other rivers in this area. The stocky season has started a bit early for us. Mark had a fantastic day at Adaire Springs recently. Fish were high up feeding on the surface when he arrived, and found Plenty of action through out the day. Small black drys, Diawl bachs and red or olive apps worms pulled all on a fast or slow intermediate done the trick.

A mix of retrieves worked through out the day and the apps fished on a single fly set up with a 15 foot leader brought back in short sharp pulls was the most successful of all tried set ups. Big thanks to Ned for another great day out on his lake.

Stay tuned as we spend the winter months travelling around Ireland fishing the bank venues and keeping you up to date on what’s working and where’s fishing.

What’s new

Piscari Pine Squirrel Dubbing

We have a lot of new and exciting dubbings coming your way really soon for the tying season. Here is a nice spikey fine squirrel dubbing, ideal for bodies and thoraxes. I use this a lot on my nymphs and brushes out really well on the thorax.

Piscari Travels

We have landed back home after a great 2 weeks in Kamloops BC. I can tell you these competitions are full on and we spent a lot of the time on the road a lot, practicing, researching and trying to figure out the different venues. We drove around 3000 km over the 2 weeks and most mornings were up at 4amish. It was a massive effort from the lads. We all had an amazing experience and some cracking fishing. Personally I gained a huge amount of knowledge through out the comp and practice, and I look forward to sharing this with you all over the winter months.

So it was a 5th place finish for Team Ireland at the Fips Mouche World Masters Fly Fishing Championships in the end, we had ourselves in the medals on two occasions over the 5 days with the help of some session wins and good placings. However it was not meant to be and from experience at these kind of comps a team needs absolutely everything to go in there favour to get over the line.

As the captain of the Irish Team I am so proud of the collective effort made by each person and the commitment to the teams performance….well done to Team Ireland, Donal Monaghan, Campbell Baird, Roger Fowler, John Lalor and Brian Russell.
