Galway angler Tom Canavan was in touch with a report on a fine perch he caught recently. Tom, who describes himself as a leisure angler with a growing interest in freshwater fishing, was spinning on the River Corrib in Galway City, around the Quincentennial Bridge on the university campus.

Using a Mepps spinner, he hooked and landed a cracking perch, the biggest he had ever seen. Other local anglers confirmed it was one of the best perch ever caught along that stretch. A good Catch of the Week too.

Unfortunately, Tom didn’t have a scales or measure with him, but the photo shows the size of the fish – we believe the technical term is a “cracker”! The fish was of course released after the photo.

Well done Tom on a fine catch!
