Season
- Season – Salmon from 17th January to 30th September.
- Sea Trout – 17th January to 12th October. Sea trout fly only 1st – 12th October.
All sea trout fishing is Catch and Release only in the Waterville area:- the River Inny (Knockmoyle) and its tributaries
- the waters of the Waterville system, including the Waterville River, Lough Currane, the Cummeragh River and all their tributary rivers and lakes
- the waters of Ballinskelligs Bay.
The Inny is a Catch and Release river for 2022. Bye-law prohibits the use of any fish hooks, other than single or double barbless hooks, and also prohibits the use of worms as bait in angling for all species of fish.
With its tributaries the River Inny drains a long narrow mountain valley and has a catchment of 47 square miles. It is very much a spate system, with the fishing confined to the spate conditions and rarely lasting more than eight hours. The locals advise taking a gillie if you are not to miss the best of it. There is about 8 miles of fishing up to Cuslagh Bridge.
It is regarded mainly as a grilse fishery, with fish running from mid-June. September can be really good. It is estimated to produce 250 fish annually. Fly fishing and spinning are the usual methods and the fly can be very productive when fish are running. Useful patterns are Hairy Mary, Silver Doctor and Thunder and Lightning, sizes 6–10, single or double.
