Mike Dennehy, skipper of the Silver Dawn out of Kinsale, reports his weekend’s shark success…
We departed Kinsale at 6am and made the 25 mile journey quickly in calm, 19C seas. While making up the chum slick one of the anglers dropped in a bait and had an immediate run. The angler, Ailbhe O’Sullivan expertly boated the 80lb blue shark quickly.

That first fish set the tone for the rest of the day with fish after fish coming up the chum slick to eat our baits. The largest of the fish was measured at 2.10 metre fork length, which is approximately 135 lbs.

The total tally of sharks boated was 19 sharks, with several more lost during the fight.
With heavy arms and sore backs we decided to head for home early at 1pm
