The weather for November has generally been kind to anglers so far this month and there was plenty of angling activity both in freshwater and at sea. Prospects for this to continue look reasonably good although it is forecast to get a bit colder in the days ahead.

At sea, flounder fishing becomes popular at this time of year and already several venues in the east coast have started to produce good fishing.  Over in North Clare, there were good numbers recorded at a shore competition along with some good Conger up to 10 kilos from the rocks.  In nearby Galway Bay parties of anglers fishing with charter skipper Max Couque recorded plenty varieties of fish near Rossaveal.  Top UK shore match angler, Ashley Sampson reported on some fine fishing at competitions here in Ireland recently.  There was some fine wrasse fishing reported from rock marks in the Kerry coastline.  The Cobh light lines competition dates were announced and anglers are looking forward to good sport over the coming winter.

In cool conditions, Emma McMahon won the first coarse competition on the Brothers Lake in Carrickmacross with some nice skimmer bream. A group of young anglers from Dublin had great fishing on Lough Ramor while fishing with the Dublin Angling Initiative. There was an announcement of list of competitions for Lough Muckno for 2013.

As usual for this time of year, there was some fine pike action reported. Angling guide Peadar O’Brien was out on several loughs in the Carrickmacross area and landed some fine fish. The Dublin Trout anglers are running several open pike competitions on Poulaphouca Reservoir near Blessington during the winter. Another angling guide in the Mullingar area, Michael Flanagan reported some cracking pike for himself and friends in loughs in the Mullingar area. Over on the River Shannon near Longford a pair of Belgium anglers fished with Kevin Lyons using deadbait and Eddy caught a specimen pike of 26 lb. 4 oz to win our Catch of the Week Indeed I caught a nice pike of 18 lb. in Co. Cavan while fishing with colleagues in the Killeshandra area last week. Full story will be in next week’s update. See picture on our facebook page along with the very successful competition that ran all week to guess the length of the fish.

Des Chew and Josie Mahon from the Dublin Angling Initiative continue to do great work bringing a big group of juvenile anglers out to the angling for all facility in Aughrim in Co. Wicklow. They ran a small competition between different areas of Dublin and approximately 30 rainbow trout were recorded on the day and the Darndale Team won the day. At Carrigavantry, a group of Cork anglers were fulsome in their praise for the quality of the rainbow trout fishing on the lough while holding a competition there. More nice rainbow trout fishing was reported at the Sheet water in the Carton House Fishery and some big pike were also recorded up to 15 lb. on the Rye Lake.

Tight lines especially in Ireland,
