Leinster Youths Fly Tying Competition
The 2012 Leinster Youths Fly Tying Competition took place in the Tullaghan Centre at Lough Owel on Saturday 25th February 2012. The competition ran from 11AM until 3.30PM with a thirty minute break for lunch at 1PM. Members of the 2012 ITFFA (Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association) Youths International Fly Fishing Team are also competing in this league, which is organised by TAFI (Trout Angling Federation of Ireland).
Each competitor had to tie four fly patterns, and they had to tie two of each pattern. The flies were: Pheasant Tail Nymph, Peter Ross, Connemara Black and a Dry Green Peter. Competitor’s fly patterns were judged upon: – correct proportions, correct use of materials, consistency between the two same fly patterns, overall presentation and finish.

4th Dylan Ennis, Coosan Anglers
5th Ciaran McDonnell, Dundalk Brown Trout Anglers
6th Michael Conroy, Dundalk Brown Trout Anglers
7th John Corbally, Coosan Anglers (joint 7th)
7th Francis Rafferty, Dundalk Brown Trout Anglers (joint 7th)

These eight competitors will represent Leinster at the 2012 Inter-Provincial Youth Fly-Tying Championship, which will be held on Saturday the 10th March 2012 at the The Dropping Well Pub, Classon’s Bridge, Milltown, Dublin 6. Registration will take place between 10 and 10.30AM. The competition will commence at 11AM and finish at 3.30PM; with presentation of prizes taking place at 4.30PM. The ITFFA extend their gratitude to all those who organised this event and they wish all of these competitors every success.
