Angling guide Peadar O’Brien from Carrickmacross reports that well known fly fisherman David Anchell and Mark Houlihan, a well known fishing guide for bass on the coast and pike on Inniscarra dam in Cork, visited the area over the weekend. The lads fished in the Carrickmacross area and on Lough Ramor, Virginia Co. Cavan. David who is from Tipperary and Mark from Cork were up fly fishing around the area. Peadar said it was one of the coldest few days fishing for a long time with the eyes of the rods freezing up during the day. Despite the challenging conditions the lads did manage to get a few nice fish along with a few jacks. Fishing was tough though with no wind and the water temp was 5 degrees. Peadar said “My big flask of coffee kept us going and Davids pointy woolly hat kept him warm”.
