River Suck, Lough Ree & Lanesboro by John Devaney
Very few anglers were present on the Suck system this week, even though conditions were ideal for angling. Patrick Healy, from Dublin caught a whopping 19.5 lb. Pike in the Athleague area during the week, and also had some jack pike, all to dead bait roach. Water levels are rising slightly after the downpour on Saturday night /Sunday morning.
Lough Ree has fished well for trout during September, with anglers on the western side of the lake reporting large amounts of fish on Tasmanian Devils, all of which were returned alive. Some large Perch were recorded on Blackbrink Bay to spinners this week.
Lanesborough Pike Anglers were due to hold a Pike Competition on Sunday, but this was called off due to poor weather. This competiition was in aid of Lough Ree Sub Aqua club, which was badly damaged in a fire recently. The competition will be re-organised in the coming weeks, and details will be posted next week.
