Phil Alford from Selby, UK has being coming to Ireland for a number of years in search of a big Irish pike. Up until last week he had only doubles and jacks to show for his perseverance. Fishing with Brian Bohan last week saw his luck improve. Brian suggested a lake in the area that would produce a few good fish this time of the year. Having got a key to access the lake from Brian, Phil had a slow start with some jacks turning up. By the end of the day he had a good number of pike with one around the 14 lb mark , a nice days fishing by any one’s standards. Phil was quite pleased with the outcome. The next day was much the same with a few more doubles for good measure.
He went again on the third day but something had changed and he went a long time without a bite. Then in the afternoon the buzzer sounded and as the line tore off the reel he struck into a big fish. To his delight he landed a beautiful pike, much bigger than he had previously got, in fine condition.
