05/08/12 Salmon fishing since my last update has been difficult, with only 10 fish landed. We had a good flood on Tuesday with the water going to 80, and falling to 70 on Wednesday and remaining at that level most of the day which made fishing challenging.
Monday was a beautiful day with clear blue skies and almost calm conditions, not what you’d call a fishing day but we managed to land 3 fish.
Gareth Beattie had two, one off the Rock pool of 4lbs9ozs on a Cascade and a cracker off the Turn pool of 12lbs4.5ozs on a Beaded Nymph. Declan O’Mahony from Cork had a 3lbs14ozs fish off Finlough on a Minkie.

We were all quiet then till Thursday when we had 5 fish. Ciaran Boland landed one of his bigger fish of the season, a sea liced fish of 2lbs12 from the Meadow pool on a Willie Gunn. Billy Marshall had a 6lbs12ozs fish off Finlough on a Cascade and Leo Casey had one also off Finlough, also on a Cascade of 2lbs9ozs.
William Beattie however, took the honours for the day with two fish in the afternoon, one sea liced of 6lbs6ozs on a Cascade from the Horseshoe and one of 7lbs11ozs also on a Cascade from the Quarry pool.
Yesterday Bob Glauber from Brooklyn, USA managed to land his first ever salmon, a sea liced 4lbs2ozs fish on a Collie Dog from the Turn pool.

Finally Neville McConnell had one yesterday evening of 5lbs2ozs on a Cascade from the Grilse pool.
It was quite a good week for sea trout with 50 landed since the 29th, mostly on Doolough and again in great condition.
You probably won’t hear from me now for a couple of weeks as I’m going on holidays.
