Ghillie/Guide Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on the Lough Currane system from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/
28/8/12 There was a strong squally SSW wind blowing across the Lake, here are the Waterville game fishing results, renowned Cork Angler Mr. Patsy Quilligan was in good form in the catch & release sea trout department, with 4 sea trout up to 4 lb., a Guest fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and of www.fishingwithdom.com caught 2 sea trout. Wind as already stated, overcast with the odd heavy showers.
29/8/12 Mr. Mark Doorman from Cork, caught 2 Juniors, with his Ghillie Mr. Bob Priestley, and to be fair it was fairly rough out there on the Lake, with a strong gusting SW wind, then veered NW with heavy showers at times, and just for the record very few anglers ventured out.
30/8/12 Straight to the sea trout department, Mr. Liam Ellis caught a 2 lb. sea trout on the drift, and for the rest of the anglers fishing on Lough Currane, they are all barred for their lack of Sea Trout, I know the feeling, and Cronenburg is the only beer able to do this, on that note, we head for the Spinner, in the salmon department, Dr. Jim Comerford caught a fine 5 lb. grilse, on the troll, now we head up stream too the Commeragh River and the Sea trout department, Mr. Mike Teahan, the matador of the Bull ring Tralee, caught 2 fine sea trout in the 3 to 4 lb. class, all caught on the Garden fly.
31/8/12 Lough Currane was on the slack side, so we head straight up to the upper Lakes and Lough Derriana and the C&R department, Mr, David Burton, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and @ [email protected] caught 5 sea trout ranging from Juniors up to 2 lb.
1/9/12 It was a wild day on Lough Currane, Mr. David Burton, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea and [email protected] caught a fine 3 lb. Sea Trout, which he sportingly put back, wind Southerly fresh too strong and overcast with heavy rain this afternoon and this evening.
2/9/12 straight to the C&R department, Mr. David Burton, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Tom O’Shea [email protected] caught a sea trout of 1.5 lb. on the drift, on Lough Derriana, now we head down stream too the big lake/Lough Currane, Mr. Patsy Quilligan of Cork caught a few Juniors and Patsy was telling me that his son, also caught a couple Juniors, staying in the sea trout Junior class, Mr. Gareth O’Hare caught 3 Juniors. Wind N Light with bright sunshine all day.
3/9/12 it was a slack day on Lough Currane, and with light misty rain at times, my Noble Game Fish were in a lethargic mood, mind you Mr. Patsy Quilligan of Cork, would beg to differ, and being a renowned angler, Patsy came up trumps again with 2 Juniors and a few Brown Trout too his basket, Patsy also reported too me that he caught 3 sea trout late yesterday evening. And just for the record over the weekend in the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com Saturday 1st Mr. Michael McGrath caught 2 Juniors and his good friends Trevor and Tom caught also caught 2 Juniors. And staying in the www.lakelandshouse.com department on Sunday 2nd Mr. Kevin Synott and his good friend Gareth caught 3 juniors.
That is your ration for this week, from your Ghillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery. No Spin No Fly’s just facts.
