Michael Murphy reports from the River Moy…

River Moy Angling Report – week ending 12-07-2026

The week began with a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers before high pressure became established, bringing increasingly warm and settled conditions across the Moy catchment. Daytime temperatures generally ranged from 18 degrees Celsius early in the week to between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius by the weekend, with light winds and very little rainfall during the latter half of the week.

River levels gradually fell throughout the week down to 0.2 m at Ballylahan by noon on Sunday 12th July. Water clarity was excellent, although lower flows and rising temperatures reduced daytime salmon activity, making early morning and late evening the most productive fishing periods. Small flies and lightly dressed patterns fished at dawn and dusk offered the best chance of success on some fisheries. Anglers were encouraged to handle fish carefully and release them quickly where appropriate due to the elevated water temperatures.

A total of 81 salmon were reported caught across the catchment for the week, of which 19 were reported released.
