Finally we have gotten off the mark for 2012 and not just with one fish but three. Just to recap it is the first February since 1986 that we did not have a fish. That year the first was caught by Sheamus Heneghan on the 9th of March. I think Paddy Heneghan was looking down on his two old mates and deliberating as to who should catch the first fish. As an aside they had seen Paddy the Saturday before he died so Paddy has thanked them today.

Alan Dunlop had and returned the first fish weighing in at 9lbs at 11a.m. from the Goat Pool. John Mills then had and returned one from the Waterfall of  7lbs. I believe John’s was caught at 11.15 am. This is the official line at this point in time although there is a stewards enquiry between the two men in question.

Alan then caught a second fish of 8lbs1ozs at 11.20am in the Whin Pool.

For those regular blog readers you may notice I didn’t include the fly yet. For those who know the men in question I’ll give you one guess bearing in mind the river height was 60. No marks for guessing a Willie Gunn Waddington.

Hugh Brennan had sent Alan and John a card asking them to catch one for Paddy so all we can say is that they did this in style.

It must also be noted that Jim Jackson also fishing with Alan and John lost a fish in the Rock Pool. Bob Brennan from Kilkenny who is also fishing today has nothing as at time of writing.  So all I can say is well done to Alan and John and here we go again. For those interested we do have availability for the next few days and next week.
