The Environment Ministry has decided to reverse a fish extinction for the first time by removing “kunimasu” freshwater salmon from its Red Data Book for endangered and extinct species after the fish resurfaced in Yamanashi Prefecture.
The ministry will instead redesignate kunimasu as “a species extinct in the wild,” meaning the species has disappeared from its indigenous habitat but exists in other areas, sources said Saturday. It is the first time a fish extinction has been revised….
