LAUNE SALMON AND TROUT ANGLERS’ ASSOCIATION WATERS AND BEAT 3 (ALSO SEE E-MAIL ATTACHED)

Angling Report 23rd July

Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association waters and Beat 3.

As of Monday 23rd July water now at a lovely 2.25 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s and running clear.  The Laune is in great condition for all methods of angling.

There were a lot of fish caught during the week with the early days of the week being the best.  This may have a lot to do with the draft nets not fishing for the weekend so one can expect that the early days of the next few weeks to follow the same pattern.  Patrick Richard had another great fish 12.5 lb.

This writer had a beautiful fish of 10 lb. on the Fly at Johnston’s on Sunday evening.

Already this morning Monday 23rd Jim Flinders has lost a big fish at Broderick’s on the fly.

With the water as nice as it is at the moment and a refreshing drop of rain forecast for tomorrow with fresh big fish and grilse running the river prospects are good for the coming week and weekend.  The water at this height favours the fly.

There were a total of 12 fish reported for the week.

Permits for Laune Anglers waters costs only €25 per day up to the end of July.

Beat 3:

Beat 3 fished really well again early last week.  On Monday a Tralee angler had three fish on the bank before 11.30 am. There were fish caught on Tuesday and Wednesday also.  The rest of the week was slow enough with the good water level falling back quickly.  With more rain forecast for mid-week I expect that the Beat will fish well again towards the end of the week and next weekend.

Anglers please note: A ‘One Day’ salmon permit for Beat 3 only costs €25 probably the best value in salmon fishing in the country with a good chance of a fish.
